The rescue
Jon Taffer relaunched The Abbey Pub as The Green Room at The Abbey.
The Abbey closed in November 2015 following a fire and a water leak. The owners hoped to reopen; a GoFundMe page raised $13,000, and Jon Taffer donated $2,500 himself.
What happened next
The Abbey had been three months from closing when it was rescued, and it traded successfully for several years afterward. In 2015, the Looney family sold the building to raise money and negotiated a lease with the new owner. Later that year, a fire gutted the bar, and it closed in November 2015. The fire and the burned-out building were later featured in a Back to the Bar episode. The Looneys then became involved in a legal dispute with the building's owner while demolishing the damaged interior with plans to rebuild.
