The rescue
Jon Taffer relaunched Angry Ham's Garage as Octane Bar and Grill.
Angry Ham’s Garage / Octane Bar and Grill closed in July 2019, and the building was listed for sale for $2.9 million. The bar recorded several liquor violations in 2018 and had attempted to rebuild its reputation by reopening as Beacon Street Bar & Grill.
What happened next
The rescue produced an early turnaround. At the six-week check-in with producers, sales at the relaunched Octane Bar and Grill were up by more than 25%, and the bar recorded a profit for the first time in its existence. The improvement was accompanied by trouble: in one incident, a doorman was struck in the head with a rock while trying to stop an intoxicated person from entering, an attack reported in local news coverage. That incident and other issues led to the bar being suspended for a week, and the business had ongoing problems with local government in the years that followed.
