The rescue
Jon Taffer kept the name Gipsy for the relaunch.
Gipsy closed in January 2014. Owner Paul stripped out the entire interior because he disliked the changes made during the rescue, and the building was later demolished. His plan to rebuild from the ground up was repeatedly delayed.
What happened next
The rescue did not take. Owner Paul returned days after the renovation and the renaming to SBLV Ultra Lounge, shut the bar down and moved his staff to another of his bars. About a year later Paul planned to gut the space and reopen it as something new, but the remodel stalled over permitting and contractor problems. Gipsy never reopened and is permanently closed.
